The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) is located on the site of the historic Black Bear Mine, high up in the Kootenay Rockies in charming Rossland, British Columbia. Established in 1955, the Rossland Historical Museum & Archives Association (now the RMDC) is a non-profit society and registered charity whose mission is to preserve and dynamically present the history and heritage of Rossland and area and to inspire and engage the public through virtual and real-life presentations that bring our history and heritage to life.

Built in 1967, the Museum complex was a Canadian Centennial project built to preserve and share the rich hard rock mining, social, and skiing history of Rossland and Red Mountain. Celebrating 50 years in 2017, the RDMC completed Phase 1 of an extensive renovation, which included expanded exhibition space, offices, a research room for public use, and a climate controlled archival space.

The museum building houses permanent and temporary displays highlighting the remarkable social and industrial history of the region and celebrating local heroes like Olympic skiers Nancy Greene and Kerrin Lee-Gartner. The archives is home to historic photos, documents, the Rossland Miner newspapers from 1896 to 1972, maps and the City’s early assessment and tax rolls, as well as other important mining and community historical information.

During the summer, take a tour of the grounds to hear stories of the gold boom days, get hands-on with mining equipment, and try your luck at gold panning! The Museum grounds are also a great place for a family picnic.

From Vimy to Juno can be accessed by visitors during regular hours of operation.
